One invariably thinks of truck drivers, country music, seedy motels, men drinking behind the wheel and the heady freedom of the great open highway.And my novel, the story of a truck driver who raises his daughter behind the wheel, doesnt disappoint. Try to establish a specific time and place in the opening paragraph. Don’t open with generalisations, but with a particular event at a particular time. Begin with the central character involved in some aspect of the main theme of the story. Avoid using the first paragraph to fill in background information.
